STAFF – We need requests for digitisation by May 31st
With the imminent move to the Hive, it is anticipated that there may be some disruption to the digitisation service (http://www.worcester.ac.uk/ils/1271.htm).
Please place requests before 31st May if you know they will be essential to your modules in September. Renewals for articles already digitised will be sent to you as normal.
Contact digitisation@worc.ac.uk if you have any queries.
STUDENTS and STAFF – Orange Book Labels
Work is being done in the Restricted Loan collection in preparation for the move to The Hive. This will become part of the University Short Loan Collection housing items in highest demand (essential reading). These books will be loaned for 24 hours to University students and staff only. Members of the public will be able to use these books for reference in The Hive.
You’ll see orange stickers appearing on the books currently in Restricted Loan explaining how the new system will work when we move to The Hive. Please ignore these stickers for now, there is no change to the status of the books at the moment: they will stay as 5 hour loans until the move to The Hive.
STUDENTS and STAFF – Blue Book Labels
You’ll also have noticed blue book labels; these indicate which books are in high demand by the University. Members of the University will be able to borrow up to 12 of these items at any one time, members of the public will be able to borrow 1, and they may be reserved for University students at peak times.
STUDENTS and STAFF – Important information about reservations
Anyone reserving an item will find that it is cancelled on 29th June if it hasn’t been satisfied by then. You need to be aware that you won’t get notified when they get cancelled, so please put this date in your diary as a reminder.
We start moving the books to the Hive on 11th June, this shouldn’t be a problem for reservations as they can still be trapped and held on our reservations shelf for pickup.
If you have any questions just ask a member of ILS staff.
STAFF – A new guest Internet access service will be launched on May 30th
The service will be available to guests who are attending University hosted events or visiting UW staff on University business. The service will provide Internet only access via the UW Wireless network and will NOT be available to the general public.
Access Requirements
The University’s Internet connection is provided by JANET, the UK’s education and research network. JANET is a private network and requires that all users are identifiable; therefore guests must complete a short access request form before being granted login credentials.
Obtaining Login Credentials
Access request forms will be available from the main receptions at St John’s and City Campus. Upon completion the guest will be issued their login Username and Password, and will be prompted for these in their web browser when accessing the Internet via the UW_Wireless network.
Duration of Access
There will be two standard access periods of 1 day and 3 days, with 1 day access extending for a period of 8 hours from the initial login. Guests requiring longer periods of access may renew their request after 3 days.
STUDENTS – ILS Communications Questionnaire
We’re currently running a survey about how we communicate ILS information to you. If you have a spare few minutes we’d love to get your feedback. The link is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9HH6676 or it’s also accessible through the ILS Facebook page: www.facebook.com/UniversityofWorcesterILS.
STUDENTS and STAFF – Redevelopment of Social Learning Area & Development of Medical Museum at City Campus
The Social Learning Area adjacent to Reception is being redeveloped to create a new exhibition of medical history. This permanent exhibition will celebrate the history of the Castle Street buildings in their former role as Worcester Royal Infirmary.
Social Learning spaces at City have been rearranged and are now as follows…
- 6 PCs in the Café 24/7
- 4 PCs in the area adjacent to Reception by the entrance to the new exhibition space
- Printers in Reception
- Group Study Area in CH2007
FINAL YEAR STUDENTS – Free binding, free Harvard’s, lots of help from ILS
Simply collect a leaflet entitled ‘Final Year Students Guide’ from Peirson or any of the Social Learning Areas and inside you’ll find vouchers as well as information about getting hold of resources, getting support and advice, ICT access and storage, additional Interlibrary requests, and lots more.
