Modules for the 2012/13 academic year are now available in the new Blackboard system and you can request access to these by completing the Blackboard Access webform on the logged in staff portal page.
All modules are automatically set up and available with a default template which can be amended to suit individual needs. No further new modules will utilise the old Blackboard system and this will be decommissioned by December 2012.
Students who have completed their online registration will start to be enrolled onto the modules they have selected from 15th August 2012.
Staff Development Workshops and surgeries
We have arranged a series of workshops to be held across both campuses during September which staff can sign up to via the staff development booking system. After each workshop we will hold a drop-in “surgery” which staff can call into whether or not they’ve attended the preceding workshop for help and advice on getting their modules up and running and using some of the exciting new features in Blackboard 9.1.
We’ve tried to offer a programme of support events that will accommodate everyone’s location/timetable however, if you can’t attend one of the scheduled sessions we’d be happy to come along at a convenient time to offer one to one support. Please contact email@example.com if you’d like to arrange an appointment.
Introducing Blackboard 9.1
The VLE has changed and this workshop will provide academic staff with details of the major changes that will affect their online teaching, together with the opportunity for some hands-on practice with the new system.
Communication Tools in Blackboard 9.1
This workshop is aimed at tutors who are familiar with the basic functionality of the software, but would like to make more use of Blackboard as a learning platform, in order to build a community of online learners. In this workshop you will use a range of Blackboard Communication Tools including email, discussion forums, announcements, blogs, wikis and journals.
Video Streaming with Uniview
Uniview is the new video server which replaces the old Release system. In this workshop you will learn how to upload a video file, create chapters and playlists, and link or embed the video into Blackboard.
Drop in Surgeries
These are open for anyone to call in for troubleshooting and “just in time” training sessions. There’s no need to sign up for these however it would be helpful if you could ensure you have requested access to the modules you are teaching on prior to attending via the staff portal.
