Urgent Care Fellowship

This is a scheme where GPs have their training extended, in order for them to undertake extended roles in urgent and emergency care. They spend half the week in 3 placements (Emergency Department, Medical Assessment Units and with West Midlands Ambulance Service) and in General Practice looking at urgent care the University of Worcester provides the academic input to the training, based on the experience and leadership shown by Dr Nicole Burger of South Worcestershire CCG. Health Education West Midlands has funded and project managed the whole pilot and has been congratulated for its evaluation and design. There are plans to extend the scheme to other areas and to develop this as a national pilot.
