Hopefully you are aware that Open Access publication can follow two main routes:
- ‘Green’ where the author publishes in a traditional journal and self-archives a copy of the publication in a repository (such as WRaP).
- ‘Gold’, involving publishing in an open access journal. This may incur an Article Processing Charge (APC).
The University’s Open Access Policy encourages Green publishing in most cases. However, the University has budgeted for some research to be published through the Gold route and will cover the costs, providing the author has followed the procedures for APCs.
If you wish to publish using the ‘Gold’ route in an open access journal which involves an APC (Article Processing Charge), you should apply for funding using the online application system for APCs which is now up and running and available from the staff portal. Log in to the portal and look for ‘Open Access Funding ‘ under “My Online Services’.
It is important you do this in advance of submitting your article for publication as the University will not reimburse the charges retrospectively.
