Inter Generations Worcester is a homesharing scheme set up as a partnership between Vestia Community Trust and the University of Worcester. We match people aged 55+ who have accommodation, but need support and companionship, with University of Worcester students looking for affordable housing near to their place of study. This means that both the support needs of the older person and the housing needs of the student are met. There is no rent payable, instead the student provides 10 hours per week of help and companionship in return for the accommodation.
The idea of homesharing has met with a really positive reception and we have several students registered and on the waiting list for a match, so we are working hard to try and find householders to match them with. You can help raise awareness of the scheme locally by talking about it to friends and family, and if you know of anyone who might benefit from some help and companionship around the home please give them our details.
