The Solar Scrap Heap Challenge is a workshop designed to bring together elements of Physics, Engineering, Electronics and Environmental Sustainability. 100 students from our Ogden Primary Partnership schools attended the workshop in the Phiz Lab.
The children were presented with a set of equipment and basic instructions in order to construct a solar powered vehicle. The children worked well as part of a team. They constructed their vehicle and learnt to charge a battery using solar power. Everybody was successful in producing a solar powered vehicle that moved!
The theory behind solar cells was explored alongside the impact/ benefits of moving towards a carbon free energy landscape. Students commented that they ‘loved the whole thing’ and that they ‘wanted to learn more about renewable energy.’
