Readings from #MeToo: rallying against sexual assault and harassment.
Just a little reminder about the event going on TOMORROW, Tuesday 17th April. I shall host Deborah Alma, the editor of the very recently published #MeToo anthology for an evening of poetry and discussion. There will be readings from the collection and a discussion about the therapeutic and restorative effects of poetry. This event is free, and will take place in the Studio at The Hive, 7.00pm-8.30pm. We warmly invite colleagues, students and members of the public to join us; please feel free to share this information widely with your networks. Books will be available for purchase. #MeToo
Fair Acre Press have recently published a women’s poetry anthology, #MeToo celebrating the new language created by the global movement, which finally meant voices were heard and recognised; a collection that ranges from devastating truths to defiant upsurges of emotions against power, manipulation and control. This is a collection about sisterhood and hope; two small words speak of a million stories. The #MeToo movement is a breakthrough in women’s liberation, demanding a new direction; this book is an artefact of those changing times. All of the proceeds from the book are going to Women’s Aid.
Deborah Alma is Honorary Research Fellow at Keele Univeristy and the Emergency Poet. She is editor of Emergency Poet – an anti-stress poetry anthology and The Everyday Poet – Poems to live by. Her pamphlet, Tales of the Countryside is published by The Emma Press (2016), and her first full collection, Dirty Laundry is being published by Nine Arches Press in May 2018.
Author Spotlight – Alex Christofi – Thursday 26 April
Join us for an evening talk with Betty Trask Prize-winning author Alex Christofi. Alex will be talking about his latest novel Let Us Be True. Let Us Be True charts the lives of two extraordinary characters through an era of great uncertainty, from the war and its aftermath to the deadly unrest of 1960s Paris, and his journey to becoming a published writer.

Writing comedy for TV and Film – a workshop with Henry Normal – Wednesday 16 May
Participate in a workshop with the hugely talented Henry Normal who has been working in TV and film for 25 years. Henry was co-writer of the Royale Family, Mrs Merton, Paul Calf, Coogan’s Run and the film the Parole Officer as well as producer of Gavin and Stacey, the Mighty Boosh, Moone Boy and the Alan Partridge film Alpha Papa and Philomena. Needless to say, Henry knows his comedy!
