We have been really busy over the last year in identifying and collecting examples of good practice to support successful student transition into higher education and to the University. Two new publications with links to case studies are available on the Realising Teaching Excellence blog: Realising Teaching Excellence at the University of Worcester
Compiled by Will Bowen-Jones
Focused on students entering year 1 of HE from school or College, or as a mature student, the aim of this guidance is to view transition as a process that builds a sense of belonging, from initial enquiry, pre-entry communications and activities, induction and into the first year. ‘Tried and tested’ case studies indicate what works.
Improving Direct Entry Student Experience of Transition to top-up honours degree
Produced by Sue Cuthbert
As the title suggests this guidance considers the transition into top-up Honours degrees of students who were previously studying at a partner institution, or are otherwise coming to the University as new students but either directly into Level 5 or 6. Drawing on a range of good practice, advice on strategies to support the transition of these students is important as they tend to have higher non-completion rates and do less well in terms of Hons degree classification.
