Compassionate University – Thursday 30th January 2014

You are invited to an introduction to the Compassionate University and to explore what this and the university policies on safeguarding and wellbeing mean to you.

This event is aimed at all staff and students who wish to know more about the Compassionate University initiative and how the three main areas outlined above can not only impact them personally but also those that work or study alongside them.

The event takes place on Thursday 30th January 2014, 10.30am – 12.30pm at the University Arena and concludes with a networking lunch.

  The University of Worcester is the first HEI in the UK to sign up to the Charter for Compassion, making a strong commitment to utilise the power of education for the major benefit of individuals and society as a whole. Our courses actively promote ethical and responsible behaviour and encourage an understanding of the values of sustainability, inclusion and mutual respect.
10.50am Safeguarding– Peter Unwin
  The University has also developed a wide-ranging policy for the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults which outlines key principles focused on wellbeing, care and compassion that apply to all members of the organisation as well as the wider community.
11.00am Wellbeing – Scott Buckler
  The University recognises that its continuing success is dependant to a great extent on the individual performance of each member of its staff and that this is often related to the health and both physical and mental well-being of the individual. Similarly, the University is committed to ensuring, as far as possible, the health, safety and wellbeing of students, visitors and contractors whilst they are part of our community.
11.10am World Café Discussion
  A World Café event to discuss each topic and identify real and practical ways in which you can help to ensure and encourage compassion, wellbeing and safeguarding within your area of work.
12.15pm Summarising Event and Closing – Kynton Swingle
12.30 – 1.30pm Networking Lunch
