The City’s Theatre: Arranging the Record of Change
The urban geographer Tim Cresswell has remarked that ‘the only consistent thing about cities is that they are always changing’—a simple statement but one which neatly encapsulates the immense complexity of the urban experience. As the ‘official’ historian of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, currently tasked with updating the record of the last two economically turbulent decades Claire Cochrane’s paper will reflect on the insights provided by urban theory especially Edward Soja’s recommendation for the spatialization of the historical record revealing a map of simultaneous relations and meanings.
